The word for garlic in Chinese is Suan, which translates to “counting.” Those who celebrate the Lunar New Year eat lots of garlic while counting all of the money they will make. Garlic is found in almost ever dish.
- 4 cups of broccoli florets (1 large bunch)
- 3 minced glaric cloves
- 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons of reduced sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 1/2 cup of vegetable broth
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- Optional: Red pepper flakes
- In a bowl, add broth, garlic, cornstarch, and soy sauce/tamari.
- Whisk to combine.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add sesame oil and heat for one minute.
- Carefully add broccoli florets.
- Cook for about 4 minutes, stirring often to prevent from burning.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, then add the garlic sauce.
- Stir well to coat.
- Cook for about 3 minutes.
- Sauce will thicken and absorb into the broccoli.
