What is The “Christmas Pickle” Tradition?

Have you ever been in a Christmas shop and seen a pickle ornament on display? If you’re like me, then you’ve probably thought to yourself, WHO IS BUYING THAT?

Turns out, it’s a thing. It’s the Christmas pickle and it comes from a German tradition called Weihnachtsgurke.

According to the legend, parents put a pickle ornament on the tree on Christmas Eve and the first child to spot it is either given the first gift, an extra gift, or the job of handing out the presents to everyone. Also, whoever finds it will have good luck for the next year.

Do you celebrate Christmas with a little pickle?
