Last night was pretty awesome! We had this crazy thunder and lightning storm like we NEVER have in the Bay area. It was great to sit in the family room, FAR away from the window mind you, and watch the storm outside. We definitely jumped a few times and kept Buster the Pug close. More humidity and possible thunderstorms and lightning expected tonight. Be Careful though, Lightning and Thunder are nothing to mess with. Here are some tips to remember when Thunder and Lightning is happening
1. DON’T WASH DISHES, BATHE, OR DO LAUNDRY.
Lightning can enter a structure through plumbing. Stay away from the faucet, never take a bath and avoid laundry.
2. DON’T TALK ON A LANDLINE TELEPHONE.
If a bolt of lightning strikes a telephone pole, it could cause an electrical surge to shoot through the phone lines. Use your mobile device instead.
3. DON’T WATCH TV OR USE APPLIANCES.
Lightning travels through electrical wiring, cords and plugs. Stay off your devices and protect them from short circuting should lightning hit and cause a voltage overload. Laptops, tablet PC’s and E readers are ok, as long as they aren’t plugged into a charger.
4. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS OR DOORS.
Lightning has been known to strike through glass and travel through unsealed cracks along doors and windowpanes.
5. DON’T DRIVE OR RIDE IN A CONVERTIBLE.
Normally cars are a safe, if lightning strikes its metal frame will conduct the current around the outside of the car and into the ground below. Convertibles don’t have metal roofs and impedes this ability.
